What do I need to learn EMG and Nerve Conductions

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) Didactic CDs/Videos

Performance of Nerve Conduction Studies requires a familiarity with:

  • The EMG machine function, such as stimulating, recording, printing, filter settings and report generation etc.. (these are usually performed by the equipment sales person upon installation or servicing of the equipment)

  • The upper and lower extremity Nerves & Muscles anatomy, Nerve Conduction and Stimulation setups (where do you put the electrodes to stimulate and record), and the expected results, shape of waveforms, how they change in disease, and the normal values for different nerves and different studies to be done in different conditions. A good place to start is the EMG Manual.

  • You can find a fully integrated course on sensory and motor nerve conduction studies, bundled with an EMG Manual in the Nerve Conduction Studies Course

Needle Examination Didactic CDs/Videos

Performance of the Needle Examination requires a familiarity with:

  • The EMG machine function, such as Needle Exam recording settings, including filters, sweep speeds, raster and report generation etc.. (these are also performed by the equipment sales person upon installation or servicing of the equipment)

  • The upper and lower extremity Nerves anatomy to learn how to develop a work-up for patients with Cervical and Lumbo-Sacral root lesions, and other compression vs entrapment neuropathies. The expected results, shape of waveforms, how they change in disease, such as fibrillations, positive waves, polyphasic units, fasciculations etc.. and the different studies to be done in different conditions. An EMG Manual will be very helpful as a start.

  • Finally, you will find real EMG patient case studies and a Diagnostic Assistant to be of real value when preparing to develop work-ups for patients referred to your EMG Lab.

  • A fully integrated course on the EMG Needle Examination, bundled with Nerve and Muscle Anatomy, an EMG Manual, Waveform identification, EMG patient case studies and the Diagnostic Assistant can be found in the Needle Examination Studies Course

Needle EMG & Nerve Conductions and Needle Exam CDs/Videos

  • If you want to perform a complete examination, which includes both Nerve Conductions and a Needle Examination, you need an integrated Nerve Conduction, Needle Exam, Case Studies and Diagnostic Assistant course, which could be found in the Integrated EMG and Nerve Conduction Studies Course
